There continues to be an increase in the number of cases of dengue fever reported in Fiji, and travellers should be aware of this. This rather nasty virus is spread by mosquitoes, and can in some cases be fatal, and there is no vaccine available. The mosquitoes that carry dengue bite during the daylight hours, so apply that repellent at all times!
Travellers holidaying in Fiji should take care to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, and if they experience a high fever (high temperature) should seek medical help immediately.
Dengue fever continues its relentless spread across the world, and is becoming more common now in central & south America.
The mosquitoes that carry this virus have made a reappearance in Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia, and sporadic cases of the disease continue to appear in northern Queensland.
Travellers to all tropical countries should update themselves on the situation in their destination as regards dengue fever.
